Moby Dick : 5 ss 198 - 211 Belisarius

 ELLER
Kapitlen 44-45
handlar huvudsakligen om
HUR finna en SPECIFIK val  i världshaven?
I mitten på 1800-talet...

Now to any one not fully aquanted with the ways of the Leviathans, it might seem an absurdly hopeless task to seek out one solitary creature in the unhooped * oceans of this planet.
* hoop = tunnband, unhoop = slå banden av tunna, avbanda  "omärkt"(?)

God help thee, old man, thy thoughts have created a creature in thee; and he whose intense thinking makes him a Prometheus; a vulture feeds upon that heart for ever; that vulture the very creature he creates.

I will now refer you to Langsdorff´s Voyages for a little circumstance in point, peculiarly interesting to the writer hereov. Langsdorff, you must know by the way, was attached to the Russian Admiral Krusensterns famous Discovery Expedition the beginning of the present century (1800-talet!)
--

In the sixth Christian centary lived Procopius, a Christian magistrate of Constantinople, in the days when Justinian was Emperor and Belisarius general.

"Procopius´s seamonster, that for half a centaury stove the ships of a Roman Empire, must in all probability have been a Sperm Whale."
